Daily Maverick is a South African online news publication and weekly print newspaper, with offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg.[1][2][3] It claims to have a readership of approximately 14.5 million unique website visits per month in 2024.[4] It was founded in 2009 by Branislav Brkic, who was also its Editor-in-Chief of the publication, and Styli Charalambous, its chief executive officer.[5]
It is known for its investigation of the Gupta Leaks,[6][7][8] which won the 2019 Global Shining Light Award.[9]
That investigation was credited with exposing the Indian-born Gupta family and former President Jacob Zuma for their role in the systemic political corruption referred to as state capture. In 2018, Brkic received the Nat Nakasa Award for his role in the investigation.[10][11] In 2021, Charalambous also received the award.[10]
